Awaken Your Inner Artist: Finding Inspiration in Everyday Moments

Awaken Your Inner Artist: Finding Inspiration in Everyday Moments

Creativity often begins not with grand ideas or exotic locations, but with a simple moment that moves you.

It’s in the light that falls across your kitchen table in the morning, the way shadows stretch across the garden, or the quiet tenderness of someone you love.

Inspiration isn’t something we chase — it’s something we notice.

That philosophy is at the heart of my Creative Spark Sessions: an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and let what’s already around you become the foundation of your creative practice.

The Power of Everyday Moments

When I worked as a photographer with Getty Images, I learned something that shaped how I see creativity.

One of my highest rights-managed image sales, to a major pharmaceutical company, wasn’t from a styled shoot or a carefully planned concept.

It was a simple, heartfelt photograph of my two daughters in their bedroom.

My oldest daughter had broken her leg, and her sister was gently signing her cast.

The light was soft, the moment tender, and I felt something stir in me.

I picked up my camera, not to create an image for the market, but to capture something real,  a feeling, a connection, a glimpse of love in an ordinary day.

That image ended up traveling further than I ever imagined.

It reminded me that the more personal you make your life, the more universal it becomes.

When we create from what truly touches us, it resonates beyond ourselves, it reaches others, too.

Pay Attention. Be Moved. Make Art.

That moment taught me that creativity doesn’t begin with a plan — it begins with paying attention.

Every day offers small sparks of inspiration: the curve of a leaf, the reflection in a window, the play of light on a petal, the gesture of a hand.

All we need to do is notice them, be moved, and allow that feeling to lead us somewhere new.

You don’t need to know how to draw or paint to begin.

All you need is curiosity and a willingness to see.

Your cell phone camera becomes your sketchbook — a way to document what catches your heart and eye.

From Inspiration to Creation

In the Creative Spark Sessions, we explore how to transform these small moments into expressive works of art.

Using photo-based mixed media techniques, we blend photography with paint, gesso, and texture to create sketchbook art that feel both personal and painterly.

It’s not about perfection — it’s about process.

It’s about awakening your inner artist and trusting that what moves you is worth expressing.

Through this approach, you begin to build your own personal sketchbook practice — a visual journal of inspiration where your photos, thoughts, and textures come together.

It becomes a place to develop creative ideas, experiment freely, and see your world with fresh eyes.

The Spark is Already There

Inspiration isn’t somewhere out there — it’s here, waiting in the rhythm of your own life.

By learning to see through your heart as much as your eyes, you awaken a deeper connection to your creativity.

When you pay attention, you begin to notice that every moment holds creative potential.

And when you act on that spark — whether through a quick photo, a sketch, or a brushstroke — you begin to cultivate your own authentic artistic voice.

That’s what the Creative Spark Sessions are all about:

Helping you discover the beauty that’s already around you, and within you.

Pay attention. Be moved. Make art.

Your inspiration is closer than you think.
