Swans
A Visual Story of Transformation, Resilience & Return
I have been photographing swans for over ten years, drawn to both their quiet beauty and the powerful presence they carry in nature. This collection brings together moments observed over time, swans gliding across still water, caring for their young, gathering in thriving populations, and stretching into flight. Through years of returning to these environments, the swan became more than a subject to photograph; it became a symbol of grace, resilience, change, and deeper self-awareness.
The series is also inspired by the timeless story of the Ugly Duckling and the idea that transformation often happens gradually and beneath the surface. Once nearly extinct in North America, the Trumpet Swan’s remarkable return through conservation efforts adds another layer to the work, a reminder of renewal, perseverance, and the beauty that can emerge through change.
What we seek is often waiting beneath the surface
