Art wall decorating dilemma: to matte or not to matte? That is the question!

Art wall decorating dilemma: to matte or not to matte? That is the question!

In this image I have taken a 5x7 art card of lovebirds and used a really large matte around it.  Using an extra large white matte and then framing it,  is one way I like to showcase smaller prints.  I have even bought some ready to frame art frames at Pottery Barn with this oversized white matte layout.

There are so many creative ways to matte and frame your art.  Here is the same image I worked on for my sister’s house.  She wanted a custom order, so I divided the image up into a triptych to match the frames she had bought at Walmart and added an extra bird in Photoshop to match the number of people in her family.  There is no matte around the print which also looks quite nice. Now this little scene of a gathering of lovebirds graces their kitchen table.

Same image, two different treatments.  Which do you prefer a matte or no matte?

This image is available as a 5x7 art card and also available for custom orders for larger prints.
